Hair Deva"The Hair DEVA," Pearl Eva Walker, is one of the most talked about natural hair stylists in Memphis and the mid-south.  With over one million locks twisted, the third generation owner of Legacy Locks and Natural Styles, talk show host, instructor, writer and lecturer she fuses her unique experience with a twist of historical, psychological and socio-political perspectives that enlightens her customers.  In essence, it simply comes natural to her.

She shares her philosophy on natural hair with a diverse clientele, including authors Eric Jerome Dickey and Lonnice Brittenum, a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, singer James Alexander of the Bar-Kays and rapper Nakia Shine.  Her writing has appeared in several publications including Memphis' Tri-State Defender, B Visible, JetBLACK and Stylez magazines.  Additionally, she has been profiled in Memphis' Commercial Appeal.  Most importantly, her peers named her the "Most Talked About Natural Hair Stylist in Memphis" at the Madam C. J. Walker Hair Show in 2005.

She is a natural hair care specialist, and has worked with clients from a variety of racial/ethnic backgrounds.   Her experience also includes platform artistry and product consulting.  She is a University of Memphis graduate with a B.A. in Liberal Studies, and has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1988.  She is a graduate of Stage One Hair School in Memphis and has successfully completed the Taliah Waajid Natural Hair and Braiding Seminar in Atlanta, GA and is skilled in over 23 techniques. http://www.naturalhair.org/ 

 

 

In fall 2003 she hosted her first internet talk show on Blakeradio.com based in New York, and for two years she hosted A Kinky (hair) Konversation, a live online chat on Memphisliveentertainment.com.   She is currently host of A Kinky Konversation on Innerlightradio.com, and a reoccurring guest on several talk shows including Mystic Deva on Blogtalkradio.com   Her global presence via the internet has allowed her to correspond and consult with individuals from as far away as Great Britain, Australia and Grenada. 

She has built a reputation for her networking and community service, and since 2002 has been an annual presenter at the NAASLC National African American Student Leadership Conference at Rust College in Holly Springs, MS where she also serves as a board member.  http://www.naaslc.org/  In 2004 she founded N'HABA Natural Hairstyles and Braids Alliance...a network to inform the public about natural hair styles, braids, product info and offer stylist referral.  In October 2007, N'HABA hosted its first "Natural Gathering" a networking party with a hair theme.  Attendees were able to enjoy live entertainment, meet stylists, asks questions, share and receive info.  She is the Fairley High School class of 1979 Alumni Association President Memphis, TN.

In April 2008 Walker was appointed by Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen to the state cosmetology board thus making her the first Natural Hair Stylist / Braider to serve on the board.  She is currently working on her first book   "Locks, Braids and Natural Styles" ...Everything You Wanted to Know.
